How to Set Football Betting Odds

Betting on football games is a billion dollar business that takes off every September when college and NFL teams kickoff the season. While the main way to bet on football is through point spreads and total lines, sportsbooks also offer a wide variety of football props that can include everything from which team will score first to how many yards a player will gain.

Whether betting on a game by itself or in a parlay, the first thing that any bettor needs to understand is how the odds are set. Most football betting odds are set at 10/11 or -110, which means that you’ll be risking $11 to win $10. The -110 is what’s known as the juice or vig, and it’s how sportsbooks keep their lights on.

Football point spreads are based on the relative strength of two teams and determine how much you win or lose if you bet on them. Favored teams are listed with a minus sign next to their number and underdogs are listed with a plus sign. A bet on a favored team will pay off if they win by more than the spread and a bet on an underdog will pay off if they win outright or lose by fewer points than the spread. If the game ends in a tie, the wager is considered a push and you get your original bet back.

In addition to point spreads, football betting odds are set for Over/Under bets. The Over/Under line correlates to the projected combined total score of both teams and individuals can place a bet on whether the actual combined score will stay "over" or go "under" a specific number such as 46.5.

Moneylines are another เว็บบอลสเต็ป popular type of bet. They don’t involve any point spreads and reflect the probability that a certain outcome will occur, with low-risk moneylines (favorites) paying out smaller returns and higher-risk moneylines (underdogs) paying larger returns. In some cases, moneyline bets aren’t available for a given game as the oddsmakers consider the matchup too close to assign a number.
